During this procedure, the surgeon controls two hand-held joysticks and foot paddles within a Surgical Console to direct movements of micro-instruments inside the patient’s chest cavity. The surgeon is able to visualize anatomical details through 10x magnification with 3-D vision using specialized cameras, and articulated micro-instruments allow the surgeon to perform precise, accurate manoeuvrers in all parts of the thoracic cavity.

The size of the incisions for robotic operations are typically 0.8 – 1.2cm, much smaller than the traditional open thoracotomy or sternotomy approach, and avoids rib or sternal spreading, which can be associated with increased complications.
